DUEF

DUEF : University Diploma of French Studies

Objectives :

This diploma is for international students who want to improve their knowledge in the French language and its culture. Our courses aim to facilitate the integration of international students within the French society and improve their knowledge on the important aspects of the contemporary French society and on the French and European institutions. Moreover, it can be a real opportunity if you are planning to study in France.

Our courses are structured around the recommendations of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), a global standard used for describing language ability. The students will improve their knowledge in speaking, listening, writing and reading.

Having a DUEF B2 or C1 grants you the possibility to register to 16 French Universities just like a DELF or TCF would.

Due to the exeptional Covid19 pandemic situation, lessons in class can be adapted into virtual lessons in order to protect students’ and teachers’ health.

Content and organisation :

At the beginning, a preliminary level test (writing and speaking tests with a teacher) will enable us to know what your current level is. You will be in the class corresponding to your level.

We restrict the numbers in classes to 20 in order to promote learning through communication (speaking, discussing, group studies).

20 hours a week per semester :
• 15H of general french by level : from Monday to Friday, from 9am to 12pm
• 3H speciality modules : 2 sessions of 1:30 in the afternoon
• 2H of personal work in the library, or in participation in cultural or sport activites

Teaching method :

Our courses promote a communicative approach depending on each student’s needs and plans for the future.

The students will have group lessons as well as guided or in autonomy works in the Learning Resources Centre.

Terms and condition for diploma validation :

There is at the end of each semester a DUEF evaluation. The exam is based on continous monitoring :

  • Attendance: your presence is taken into account in order to obtain your certificate. Thus, you are required to attend at least 85% of your classes (courses, personal work, modules).
  • 4 skills according to the Common Framework of Reference for Languages: Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing and Continuous Assessment: graded tasks or activities (written assignments, tests, small oral presentations, participation and similar) distributed throughout the course.
  • 2 speciality modules chosen by the student.

The registration at the CILEC for one or two semesters allows you to get a University Diploma of French Studies (DUEF) at the University Jean Monnet, from level A1 to C1.
