Whom is it for?

Men and women over 18 residing in France or abroad

High school diploma (baccalaureate type) recommended


What is it for?

To understand and be understood in French; to discover French culture and the region.


When and how MUCH?

A comprehensive program of 40 to 80 hours (20 hours a week) and an outstanding cultural experience in the heart of the St. Etienne region from 23rd June to 18th July 2025.

  • Face-to-face courses in French as a foreign language (18 hours a week): Communicative, active and hands-on teaching approach using role-play, authentic documents, etc.
  • Each week of class revolves around a core theme. A few examples: media and communication, French history and heritage, science and technology, architecture and the city, French gastronomy, nature and the environment, and finally arts and culture.
  • Weekly teaching project (2 hours a week) : prepared in the multi-media resource center and presented at the end of the week. Enhancement of written and oral comprehension and expression skills.
  • Socio-cultural activities: Touristic excursions through the Rhône-Alpes region, museum visits, sports tournaments, cultural evenings, games and competitions, nautical activities on the Loire River, etc.

Classes are organized by language level groups (test given on the first day of the course): 19 students maximum per class.

For all levels, 2 week minimum enrollment: 23rd June to 5th July 2025 or 7th to 18th July 2025.
Beginners are obliged to start on 23rd June 2025.
No beginners will be accepted on 7th July.

 

Fees

€400 (2 weeks) or €680 (4 weeks) for individual applicants.
€620 (2 weeks) or €1,120 (4 weeks) if paid by a third party (Pôle Emploi, employer).

Payment channels and conditions for reimbursement

NEW IN 2023: possibility to pay fees for summer courses by credit card online

For admitted candidates, the registration fees (excluding CVEC: Student and Campus Life Contribution) will be paid during the period indicated above by credit card online or by bank transfer. International bank fees will be paid by the student. The University must receive the exact amount corresponding to the rate of the desired training period.

The cancellation will be possible only in the following cases: refusal of visa, failure to the examination at the end of secondary school, serious illness, death of one of the two parents or brothers and sisters, training not open due to the establishment.

For any refund request, please send an E-mail with all supporting documents enclosed and translated into French (medical certificate, etc.) to the following address: cilec @ univ-st-etienne.fr

If the answer is positive, refund will be done.

WARNING: Cancellations for other reasons (enrollment in another institution, for example, or distance-learning systems, before or during the course) shall not result in reimbursement. 
Any linguistic stay which has been started is due in full. No refunds are possible.

You're requesting funding from your employer or Pôle Emploi

Download the Continuing Education (FC) Funding registration form 2024 - 2025 Summer 2025 (Word - 2,044Ko) and return it, filled in and signed, to cilec @ univ-st-etienne.fr before 2nd May 2025.

A quote or agreement will be sent to your employer or Pôle Emploi.
A test of your level will be given on the first day of your training.

The students are not insured for the various CILEC leisure activities. Before their departure, they must take out an individual insurance policy covering all risks inherent to their travel and their stay. The CILEC in no way can be held liable for any problems

The CILEC reserves the right to cancel a language level group if the number of enrolled participants is insufficient. Due to the health crisis linked to the Covid-19 epidemic, measures planned for in-person teaching sessions may possibly need to be changed into remote sessions, so as to ensure teachers’ and students’ safety.
